Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we don't, and where it goes.
Last updated: August 22, 2026
The short version
Dadabase has no accounts, no logins, and no user profiles. We don’t ask for your name or email to browse, vote, or save anything. Votes are recorded anonymously, saved jokes and quotes stay in your browser, and we don’t sell or share data with advertisers.
1.Who we are
Dadabase (“we”, “us”) runs the website at dadabase.app and the companion Dadabase mobile app. This policy covers both. It explains what information those products handle and why.
2.No accounts, no personal profiles
You can read jokes and quotes, vote, filter, and save favorites without creating an account. We don’t operate a sign-up system, so we hold no usernames, passwords, email addresses, or profile data for readers.
3.What we store on our servers
- Votes. When you vote on a joke or quote, we store the item’s ID and whether the vote was up or down. Votes are not linked to you, your device, or a session identifier, so we cannot tell which votes came from the same person.
- Joke submissions. If you submit a joke, the title, the joke text, and the name you optionally provide are sent to our team’s private Slack channel for review. Don’t include personal details you’d rather not share — a nickname is perfectly fine, and the name field can be left blank.
- Content. The jokes, quotes, categories, and philosopher entries themselves are editorial content we manage; they contain no information about readers.
We do not build advertising profiles, we do not sell data, and we do not share data with third parties beyond the service providers listed in section 7.
4.What stays on your device
Your preferences and saved items are kept in your browser’s local storage (or the app’s local storage on mobile). They are never uploaded to us:
- Jokes and quotes you save, so the Saved page can show them again.
- Your joke category filters and stoic philosopher filters.
- Your light or dark theme preference.
Clearing your browser data — or uninstalling the app — deletes all of it permanently. We have no copy to restore.
5.Cookies and analytics
Dadabase does not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. The preferences described above use local storage, which is not sent to any server with your requests.
When analytics are enabled, the site loads Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — which pages get visited and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes an abbreviated form of your IP address on Google’s infrastructure, subject to Google’s privacy policy. We use it only in aggregate and never attempt to identify individual visitors. Browser “Do Not Track” settings, ad blockers, and privacy extensions that block analytics will not affect the rest of the site.
6.Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider records standard technical request logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security, abuse prevention, and debugging. These logs are retained for a short period by the provider and are not used to profile visitors or combined with anything else in this policy.
7.Service providers
We rely on a small set of providers to run the service:
- Vercel — website and API hosting.
- Supabase — the database that stores content and vote tallies.
- Notion — where our editorial content is written before it syncs to the site.
- Slack — where joke submissions and error reports are delivered to our team.
- Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement, when enabled.
Each processes data on our behalf under its own terms. If you install the app from the App Store or Google Play, those stores also collect information about the download under their own policies, which we don’t control.
8.The mobile app
The Dadabase app talks only to our own API at /api/v1. It contains no advertising SDKs, no third-party trackers, and no analytics. It does not request your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or photos, and it does not collect a device advertising identifier.
9.Children
Dadabase is a general-audience site built around clean humor, and the mobile app never serves jokes tagged as adult. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — since we collect none from anyone, there is nothing to collect. If you believe a submission contained a child’s personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10.Your choices and rights
Because we hold no information that identifies you, there is normally no personal data for us to look up, export, or erase on request. In practice you are in control:
- Clear your saved items and preferences by clearing site data in your browser, or by uninstalling the app.
- Block analytics with a browser extension or privacy-focused browser.
- Skip the optional name field when submitting a joke.
If you submitted a joke and want it and any name attached to it removed, email us and we’ll delete the submission from our review channel. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to complain to your local data protection authority.
11.Changes to this policy
If we change how Dadabase handles data, we’ll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
